I'm back - but not so sure where I'm at

Seasons Greetings (sort of). After a period of hibernation, mandatory family socialising and above-average consumptions of food, I'm slowly getting back into work.  I really hit a wall over the Christmas break - the end of semester combination of being busy, ill and quite stressed burned me out for a couple of weeks.  However I have begun my further reading section as listed on my proposal, and with the ethics form deadline approaching I really need to pinpoint where my project is going as I still feel like I'm in a bit of a slump.

One of the things I need to take into consideration is what my honours project is going to be.  I am happily based in looking at propagandic styles and visual persuasion, via branding, however Simone noted when grading my research proposal that I am not specific enough about what I am going to do.
I proposed to create a brand that displayed different techniques of persuasion but I did not go much further than that, which understandably does not make for a very clear idea of what my project will be.

I think my project could be narrowed down a bit, so I am going to my supervisor and/or Dave for advice this week.  Currently I am brainstorming ideas and looking back at pre-production/concept development to see if I can get some direction from that.  I like the idea of using a brand identity to employ covert/overt persuasive techniques, but I am aware that the focus may have to shift to advertising, which could potentially fit better with the subject matter.  Thoughts at the moment are that I would be using propaganda-style visuals in place of contemporary ones, however I need to ask questions as to what that would achieve.  Other areas of research I have earmarked are semantic theory and phenomenology, which I have noted from a lecture last semester and will hopefully be informative.

As you can tell my thoughts are a little bit all over the place at the moment.  My aim for this time next week is to have a proper project focus so that I can hand in my ethics form.  I hope that with a good chunk of research this will happen soon - fingers crossed!
